Mounting and heating tools

The Lifetime Solutions factsheet groups mechanical bearing tools, hydraulic bearing tools and thermal bearing tools under mounting. The mounting handbook MH 1 (December 2017) is the long document behind that work: it separates mechanical, hydraulic and thermal methods and describes hydraulic nuts and induction heaters as tool classes. It points to a separate publication, TPI 200, for FAG heating devices. This website does not host TPI 200 and does not invent heater model numbers.

Two limits in MH 1 are worth keeping next to any heating request. Heating should normally not exceed +120 °C, so that hardness and structure are not altered. Bearings with glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cages, and bearings that are sealed or already greased, may be heated to a maximum of +80 °C and not in an oil bath. Those are 2017 handbook limits for the cases described there. The specific bearing’s current instruction wins.

The factsheet states that incorrect mounting methods cause around 5% of bearing damage. That is Schaeffler’s published figure. FEX can ask whether a tool is available. This page is not a mounting procedure and not a statement that FEX carries out certified mounting.
