Propulsion and shafting

Rolling bearings and housings on shaft lines, thruster drives and propulsion gearboxes — with a clear line around white-metal bearings.

Lineshafts sometimes use split spherical roller bearings so a bearing can be changed without drawing the shaft out of the ship. Intermediate shafts also sit in plummer blocks. Thruster drives and reduction gears use the rolling-bearing types named on those family pages.

A hydrodynamic propeller thrust bearing, white-metal stern tube or tilting-pad block is a different product. This catalogue does not list those as Schaeffler rolling bearings and does not imply a quantity held for sale. If that is the part you need, say so in the inquiry and FEX will treat it as a separate availability request.

Schaeffler publication WL 21 508 EA describes large spherical roller bearings chosen because a pipe-lay reel had to accept hull motion and shaft deflection. Read it as a manufacturer example of bearing selection, not as an FEX reference.

What to include

  • Shaft diameter at the seat, and the bearing designation if any.
  • Whether the construction is split, and how it is mounted now.
  • Misalignment, hull deflection or shock the arrangement must accept.
  • If the part is white metal or a tilting pad, write that in the first line.
