Arcanol greases

Arcanol is the grease name in Schaeffler’s rolling-bearing brochure. The brochure’s selection chart names MULTITOP, MULTI2, MULTI3, LOAD150, LOAD220, LOAD400, LOAD460, LOAD1000, TEMP90, TEMP110, TEMP120, TEMP200, SPEED2,6, VIB3, FOOD2, CLEAN-M and MOTION2, plus a semifluid grease. FOOD2 is described there as intended for food contact, with NSF-H1 registration and kosher and halal certification stated by Schaeffler. Those statements are the manufacturer’s, not an FEX certificate.

The suitability symbols, base oils and temperature columns are not copied here. They are easy to apply to the wrong machine when they are lifted out of the chart. Use the brochure. In WL 21 508 EA, Schaeffler records Arcanol LOAD220 as the grease recommended for that one pipe-lay reel bearing. It is an example, not a default grade for every ship.

The same brochure warns that base oils and thickeners are not all miscible, that additive effects in a mixture cannot be estimated without tests, and that a lubricant specialist should be asked when mixing cannot be avoided. The Lifetime Solutions factsheet’s statement that improper lubrication causes up to 80% of bearing damage is a Schaeffler statement, not an FEX survey.
