Housings and plummer blocks
The housing that locates a bearing: split plummer blocks and flanged housings.
Availability on inquiry
A housing inquiry is incomplete if it only names the shaft diameter. The seal, the locating ring, the material and whether the cap is split all change the part. The Schaeffler mounting handbook treats split housings as their own mounting case, including alignment of the two pedestals.
Schaeffler publishes plummer-block housings. This draft does not print housing series codes, because the current code must be read from the catalogue you are buying against. Other housing makers are not named here.
What to include
- Bearing designation that must fit the housing.
- Shaft diameter through the seal, and the seal type.
- Two-bolt or four-bolt base, and the fixing dimensions if a replacement must match.
